Following the groundbreaking Ethos
research in Merseyside throughout 2007 ACO Bill Evans said
"The Service are delighted with the research and reports
produced by "Fitting-in. We believe that your original hyphothesis
and work undertaken in Merseyside has resulted in a ground breaking
piece of work that can only serve to inform the wider fire and rescue
communities."
Have you seen
Ethos? - the report that provides an answer to the question
that most Chief Fire Officers ask - “Why is it that the
values and attitudes held by new firefighters almost seem predisposed
to change from the day that they commence training?”
This report
came about following a snapshot audit in the Merseyside Fire and Rescue
Service.
The research
findings were so significant that discussions and research have continued
to test the findings with focus groups and the Fire Brigades Union.
Ethos
2, which sets up a platform for implementation of the findings
of Ethos is now accepted.
The implementation
plan has been tested with focus groups and the Fire Brigades Union
and the Fire Authority.
Training/education
sesssions have taken place to help with the implementation of the
findings
Ethos
3 which is still on the drawing board will report on the progress.
The results
of Ethos are likely to be significant for the whole fire
and rescue service so watch this space for further details.
