Fire service research, the fitting-in website where academia and the fire service can meet - a resource for research and consultancy for the fire and rescue service and firefighters - Organised by Dr Dave Baigent this site provides a place to share your own research and to look at what others have written about the fire service

Academics are not the experts, fire and rescue service managers are the experts.
What fitting-in can do is to help managers to recognise their expertise and to further understand the issues through that recognition.

Snapshot research

Snapshot audits are a new development for the fire and rescue service. Completed in under three days, the snapshot audit can be used to provide a very quick response to a new situation, carryout an impact assessment, test new ideas or look afresh at a long term difficulty.

Immediate verbal report back and written report follows within a week.

These audits were first designed and used to considerable effect in Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for the ethos project that investigated changing the informal culture and improving industrial relations.

Have you seen Ethos? - the report that provides an answer to the question that most Chief Fire Officers ask - “Why is it that the values and attitudes held by new firefighters almost seem predisposed to change from the day that they commence training?” In asnwer to this question fitting-in has carried out a long term research project and provided answers that will be of considerable use to the whole fire and rescue service.

Supported by the unique experience that fitting-in has in understanding fire service culture
